Awards and Patents
Over the years, several of our clients have received awards for products developed with KLN's assistance.
Additionally, a number of other clients have benefited from our experience and ability to secure patents for the technical innovations we developed with or for them.
These awards and patents include:
In 1997, Thin Kerf Technologies Inc. won "Bronze" in the
"Industrial Systems Category" of the Design Engineering
Awards for their product called "BoardRunner". This portable precision
measurement instrument was designed for use in sawmills to diagnose problems related
to feed speed, sawing accuracy and board thickness. Thin Kerf had contracted KLN
to re-engineer a previous version of the instrument in order to reduce its
weight by 28%, achieve reliable and accurate measurements under all conditions
encountered in a mill, and create a visually appealing and technically advanced

The "Just Rewards" Loyalty Program, which Willowbrook Shopping Centre offered
to its shoppers, and which was based on KLN's SHOPTECH system, won the
International Council of Shopping Centers' MAXI Award, as well as the Canadian Maple Leaf Award,
shortly after its implementation.
These prestigious awards are for the retail industry what the Oscars are for the film industry.
SHOPTECH was the first full-featured database
and loyalty system exploiting the power and cost effectiveness of the PC platform. For more

Although we ask to be named as the inventor or co-inventor of innovations
developed by KLN, we grant the ownership of the patents and the full control
of the benefits of these intellectual properties to our clients.
We have experience and can assist in producing the text and the technical
drawings that describe in detail the nature of an invention. The format
chosen is styled after the format of many patent applications and, therefore,
facilitates greatly the communication with a patent lawyer and the patent
application process.
