Paper Cassette for Thermo-Paper

Client's Request:
To design a light but sturdy enclosure for thermal paper rolls used in ticket vending machines, so that the paper could not get wet when collecting the vending machine's cash on a rainy day.

Overview of KLN's Contribution:
Design of paper cassette and of all the required manufacturing molds, as well as machining of molds and production of several hundred units.

Click to view larger image To achieve a light but sturdy design and to allow at the same time for an easy visual check of the amount of thermal paper still available in the cassette, KLN decided to use clear polycarbonate material. The cassette was designed as two halves each with diagonal indentations and with reinforcing corner pieces. A gasket around the edge of the two halves seals against rain. This design facilitates replacement of an empty paper cassette and offers the benefit of an virtually unbreakable, light-weight, protective housing.

To manufacture these paper cassettes for Park Ur Self, KLN additionally designed and machined several molds to thermo-form the polycarbonate material. Several hundred units have been manufactured at KLN's premises for Park Ur Self.
